Quick News, October 2021
My next article isn’t ready yet, so instead I’m sharing some news links in the world of blockchain and IoT.
Helium
I’m a fan of the Helium project. Helium has its own blockchain, independent of the bigger cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum. Its token is $HNT.
Helium has a simple incentive scheme. Miners earn $HNT for providing Helium network coverage. Anyone who wants to use the network must buy $HNT to convert to “Data Credits”, which are then spent paying for the data used.
This incentive rewards average people for building out distributed network infrastructure.
Helium built a network and now it has customers
This is a good introductory article to Helium and recent news with the network.
Actility and Helium Announce Roaming Integration to Drive Enterprise Adoption Globally
This is one of the bigger Helium announcements. It’s similar to a roaming agreement in the cellular telephone world, except for LoRaWAN data.
Autonomous Vehicles
Ann Arbor Launches Autonomous Shuttle
Local autonomy startup May Mobility launched a limited area shuttle service for downtown Ann Arbor this month.
I’m looking forward to riding the shuttle. I've worked on autonomous vehicle technology too much not to try it.
Even if it does bring the Robot Apocalypse closer.
